Dr. Laura Thomas is a Clinical Psychologist, trained in the UK with almost 15 years post qualification experience working in UK National Health child & adolescent mental health services. Alongside this she has worked in private practice with children, families and adults, as well as providing psychological assessment for court.
The majority of Laura’s work is with children & families with presentations that include: attachment difficulties; behaviours that challenge; neurodiversity; learning / intellectual difficulties; continuing health care needs; disordered eating & eating disorders; anxiety; low mood; gender identity; emotional dysregulation & trauma. Laura also specialises in working with adults, particularly those with a trauma background and high levels of emotional distress.
Laura is experienced in providing comprehensive psychological assessment, including psychometric testing of children & young adults with a view to developing a clear understanding of needs to inform recommendations aimed to improve their wellbeing.
Laura has an expertise in forensic psychology, with a post graduate certificate enhancing her significant work experience with young people at risk of entering the criminal justice system. Alongside this she is well practised at assessing & managing risk in people with significant mental health presentations & risky behaviour.
Laura believes in a collaborative approach working with clients towards their personal therapy goals, using psychological models that are a best individual fit.. Laura uses an integrative approach to therapy drawing upon her training in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), mindfulness, dyadic developmental psychotherapy (DDP), attachment & systemic theory, as well as various trauma focused therapy approaches including eye movement desensitisation reprocessing (EMDR) with children & adults.
