Addiction Counsellor

Mariko Aguiar (she/her/hers) received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 2004 through Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, Canada followed by her Bachelor of Social Work Degree in 2007 and Masters of Social Work Degree in 2008, both from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada. In 2015, she moved to Bermuda from Nova Scotia and began working with incarcerated populations. In 2020 she became internationally certified in Alcohol and Drug Counseling and the next year received her international certification in Gambling Counseling. Mariko has over 15 years of experience in the field of social work and over 7 years of experience specifically in the field of addiction. Her work experience has included providing holistic services to meet the needs of women and children experiencing homelessness, families, at-risk populations, youth, individuals with mental health issues and concurrent disorders and those involved with the Court system. Addiction can impact any person at any point in their lives, as well as the affected others, or those people in a support system such as friends and family members. As a compassionate and certified counsellor, she offers therapeutic services to those who are harmfully involved with alcohol, substances and/or gambling.
